“The print sector and your businesses are of huge importance not only to the economy but also for other sectors and businesses within them.”
Those were the words of Printing Charity’s president for 2024, Baroness Nicky Morgan, as she entertained guests with a thought-provoking speech at the 195th Annual Luncheon.
As well as discussing the print industry as her whole, her speech also reinforced the message of the charity saying: “Asking for help is the first step towards feeling more prepared for what life throws at you.”
The group’s chair, David Phillips, also addressed the attendees. He said: “The Luncheon is an annual staple of the print calendar, and an important way for the charity to say ‘thank you’ for all the support the industry has provided us with this year.
“We’re proud to have been there for as many people as we have, but we know there are more people out there who need our help.”
Mr Phillips also read out a message from charity Patron His Majesty the King, and then updated guests on what has been a busy year.
The event was held on November 14 at Stationers’ Hall in London, with more than 150 representatives from print, paper, packaging, publishing and graphics in attendance. “The print sector and your businesses are of huge importance not only to the economy but also for other sectors and businesses within them.” Those were the words of Printing Charity’s president for 2024, Baroness Nicky Morgan, as she entertained guests with a thought-provoking speech at the 195th Annual Luncheon. Print business in boom despite delay from projections BPIF report explains Latest business projection presented in BPIF’s Printing Outlook report
The print industry is set for an end-of-year boom in its output despite a delay in growth, the latest British Printing Industries Federation (BPIF) report says.
The independent body recorded in its latest edition of Printing Outlook, that output, orders and confidence in Q3 displayed the most positive values for two years, and is set to continue into Q4.
Profit distribution was healthier, and cash flow was being managed effectively, with most companies specifically targeting improvements in operational effectiveness, sales management and cost control to help maximise future profitability.
BPIF also found sustainability trends are growing as more businesses are measuring, and minimising their carbon footprint; and making strategic investments that will improve their credentials.
But BPIF says to be cautious with its projections as some adjustments may be needed with the announcement of the Government’s Budget along with concerns within the industry having an impact.
A shortage of skilled employees, for example, was identified as a significant issue limiting capacity utilisation with BPIF calculating it was restricted by just over 11% in October – up from 9% in July, around 6% in April, and 4% in January.
Kyle Jardine, BPIF economist, said: “Some uncertainty still remains but Q4 expectations remain positive.
“The last 24 months have been characterised by lingering and extreme cost pressures, economic uncertainty and political instability.
“With the Budget revealed, businesses will at least be ready to move on with some of that uncertainty behind; though they will likely find the process of moving on more challenging as a result of its changes.”

Meteor Inkjet reveals new electronics and software for Xerox M series printheads The new Meteor new HDC-XM component for the Xerox M series
Meteor Inkjet has added to its portfolio as it announces new electronics and software for the Xerox M series printheads.
It’s new HDC-XM solution enables OEMs to exploit the capabilities of the series’ printheads which are already widely used in additive manufacturing.
Coupled with Meteor software for system control, print job creation and image quality enhancement, OEMs can reduce the time and effort associated with the design and delivery of industrial inkjet systems.
The Xerox M Series printheads are mainly used for industrial applications such as 3D printing and robotic decoration, particularly when high-viscosity fluids are required.
Additionally, a stainless-steel faceplate and relatively simple construction make the printhead well-suited for pharmaceutical and food applications.
Jonathan Wilson, Meteor’s vice president of business development said: “Since 2019, Meteor has collaborated with Xerox on driving W Series printheads and we are excited to expand our support to encompass the entire Xerox printhead portfolio with the addition of the M Series.
“This partnership helps to unlock high-viscosity capability for print system builders while providing access to independent hardware and software solutions.”
Craig Greenwood, senior sales executive, Xerox OEM Printheads said: “Our strategic collaboration with Meteor enhances hardware and software compatibility for the Xerox M Series and streamlines workflows for businesses across various sectors, including 3D, additive manufacturing, direct-to-shape, and automation.” Meteor Inkjet has added to its portfolio as it announces new electronics and software for the Xerox M series printheads. Dataline expands with acquisition of PRAGMA Informationssysteme GmbH Dataline executives Dirk Deroo (CEO) (2nd from right) and Andy Willaert (COO) (7th from right) together with Michael Bauwmeister (Geschäftsfüher Pragma) (1st from left) and the Pragma team at the acquisition
Dataline has expanded with its acquisition of PRAGMA Informationssysteme GmbH and remains in the market for further buys.
The takeover comes as part of company’s ambition to further strengthen its position in the European market, particularly in the DACH region (Germany, Austria and Switzerland).
The company took over PRAGMA – developer of Chroma software aimed at companies in the print industry – from Bertsch Innovation – a software company outside the graphic arts industry.
Though the former owners had success in other sectors, it became clear after two years that PRAGMA was better suited to a specialist in graphic ERP software.
As a result, it has joined Dataline who has had success with previous acquisitions across Europe, such as Insad (Netherlands), Loiston (Finland), and Palmart (Spain).
Dirk Deroo, CEO of Dataline said: “With PRAGMA as a strong partner, we can now establish a solid foundation in the DACH region and serve our customers better at the local level.
“This investment not only adds a valuable customer portfolio to our company but also brings a team of experienced and motivated specialists.”
Michael Baumeister, director of PRAGMA said: “We are excited to join forces with a strong partner like Dataline.
“We share the same vision: the graphic arts industry in Germany needs advanced automation and powerful workflows to maintain its competitiveness in the global market.
“It’s expertise and products have proven to be perfectly suited for this, and we firmly believe that together we can make great strides.”
General-purpose software, not specifically designed for the print industry, is of little help to print media companies. To meet this need, Dataline developed MultiPress MIS/ERP software.
